Heads Up Display (HUD)

The HUD Display System
Combat Displays' ruggedized DLP-based LED Illuminated Head Up Display (HUD) System design is based on the company's family of MILSPEC tested display solutions. The design combines state-of-the-art Pixelworks image scaling, Texas Instruments DLP® spatial light modulator, SCRAM Technologies' proprietary optics design and patented LED illuminator technology, and Combat Displays' patent pending stroke video processing algorithms.

The well-engineered LED illuminator along with optimized system design allowed Combat Displays' system to pass the sun light readability test with required image contrast in the presence of direct sun light.

The Digital Light Processing® technology is our microdisplay of choice and is found in the best digital projectors available today. The DLP® recreates source material with fidelity that other digital systems cannot match. The all-digital DLP® chip delivers precise, razor sharp, lifelike images with virtually no pixelization or "screen door effect."

The all-digital DLP® chip delivers precise, razor sharp, lifelike images with virtually no pixelization or "screen door effect."

When the DLP® is combined with the Pixelworks DNX™ (Digital Natural Expression) technology, a clear, dramatically enhanced, natural-looking quality video image is delivered for both standard and high definition inputs. Together with LED illumination, the result is an all solid state design with significant increases in image quality and drastic reductions in power, weight and cooling requirements. All lenses are made of commercially available materials that can be manufactured in either glass or plastic.

Optics
Each system is optically engineered with features such as required Field Of View resolution, distortion correction, sunlight readability, high brightness Day Mode, low brightness Night Mode, full Night Vision Imaging System (NVIW) compliance, and night vision goggle compatibility. The system architecture maintains single color or full color modes.

Our proprietary patent pending low profile design can be packaged in the limited space available in the cockpit instrumental panel.

Video Sources and Scaling
Computer and video images from NTSC/PAL to WUXGA at virtually any refresh rate can be resized to fit the fixed-frequency target display device UXGA resolution. The combination of Pixelworks Vertical and Horizontal Peaking, Digital Luminance Transient Improvement (DLTI), and Digital Chroma Transient Improvement (DCTI) allow sharper images and provide more control over the final image quality.
